With the release of the much-anticipated Deadpool film looming on the horizon, star Ryan Reynolds has revealed that his X-Men Origins: Wolverine co-star Hugh Jackman is open to the idea of appearing in the film as Wolverine.
Jackman has stated that the upcoming ‘Wolverine’ sequel will be his last time playing the iconic character, but Ryan Reynolds, who will be portraying The Merc With A Mouth for the second time, says that he’s been pushing Jackman to appear in Deadpool.
“God, I hope so, that would be really nice,” said Reynolds. “I dunno, we’ll see. It seems like he’s open to it, but it’s gonna be more of a scheduling issue than anything else.”
If 46-year-old Jackman does get his claws out in Deadpool, it will mark the eighth time that he has played Wolverine on-screen – a record in the superhero genre that is expected to stay intact until Robert Downey Jnr breaks it by playing Tony Stark/Iron Man for the ninth time in Avengers: Infinity War – Part 2 in 2019.
Reynolds and Jackman last appeared as their respective characters in the less-than-warmly received X-Men Origins: Wolverine, but Reynolds has stated that his portrayal of the human mutate anti-hero will be very different to the version seen in Origins.
Deadpool will be released in cinemas on February 12th, 2016.
