In a long line of overly-excessive gore, cheap special effects, endless streams of ‘found footage’ and more bad acting than several sticks can be shaken at, horror remakes are generally poor imitations of the original, with remakes such as A Nightmare On Elm Street, Friday the 13th (which were both produced by Michael Bay – surprise surprise) and Halloween twisting the classics into warped mockeries of their former glory.
But, if one looks hard enough, a diamond can be found amidst all the muck, with the 2013 remake/reboot of The Evil Dead being a perfect example.
Behold, the latest trailer for the remake of Tobe Hooper’s haunted house classic, Poltergeist.
Poltergeist, unlike some remakes we’ve seen in recent years, actually looks like it could be fairly enjoyable. We can see from the iPhone and the plasma screen TV in the trailer that it’s been bumped up to be set in modern-day America, and with the acting talent of Sam Rockwell in the lead role, we’re sure to be in for a treat.
Directed by Gil Kenan, the film stars Sam Rockwell and Rosemarie DeWitt in place of Craig T. Nelson and JoBeth Williams as two parents who, after moving to a new home in the suburbs, must contend with terrifying supernatural forces that threaten the safety of their family.
Poltergeist will be released in cinemas on May 22nd, 2015.
